The Faculty of Medicine was launched 20 years ago with a very small number of faculty members and rudimentary infrastructure, welcoming the first students in September 1990. It is the newest in Greece and in comparison with other Faculties or Medical Schools it has the smallest number of faculty members (96 active and 37 under evaluation or nomination). Since 1999, the University Hospital of Larissa has been functioning as a tertiary unit, one of the most modern in the country, with 690 beds. This is where University Departments and Laboratories develop their activities and undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD students, as well as a great number of resident doctors practise
