The Electronic Service for Acquiring Academic Identity began in the 2011-2012 academic year and supports multiple benefits - privileges for all members of Greek higher education institutions (students of the three cycles of studies, permanent, visiting and contract lecturers, administrative and technical staff), as well as members of research institutions (research, administrative and technical staff).

For the development of the service, the computing infrastructure of EDYTE S.A. was utilized, which, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, developed the central information system for the implementation of the unified academic identity in the form of a plastic or smart card.

The service contributes to the modernization of the way academic services and student welfare services are provided, by saving public resources by eliminating abusive benefits and by eliminating the need for annual reissue of student ID cards and other cards.
