Regarding psychiatric illnesses, the lectures concern the nutritional factors involved in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, the role of vitamins in the pathogenesis and treatment of psychiatric illnesses, alcoholism, anorexia nervosa and bulimia.
For endocrine diseases, metabolic syndrome, the effect of the thyroid on metabolism, iodine sources and the risks of its deficiency or excessive intake, dietary habits and BMI as risk factors for thyroid cancer, diet in hyper- and hypothyroidism, calcium and vitamin D in parathyroid gland diseases, the role of nutrition in the prevention of complications of diabetes mellitus, dietary recommendations for type 1 and type 2 diabetes will be developed. Regarding ophthalmological diseases, the role of nutrition in the occurrence and treatment of optic neuropathy, myopia, presbyopia, cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration will be discussed. In musculoskeletal diseases, the pathophysiological mechanisms of osteoporosis will be developed, diet in osteoporosis and the risks of complementary therapy, the pathophysiology of sarcopenia and the role of nutrition in its prevention in high-risk individuals, and finally the role of nutrition in wound repair.
For dermatological diseases, lectures will be held on the role of nutrition and vitamins in skin health, collagen and retinoids in the prevention of skin aging, antioxidants in the prevention of skin cancer, the role of nutrition in psoriasis, food allergens in atopic dermatitis and finally the role of vitamin D and nicotinamide (vitamin B3) in the treatment of skin diseases.
