Dr Nikolaos Galanakis MD, PhD is currently a consultant Interventional Radiologist at the Department of Medical Imaging in University Hospital of Heraklion.

He qualified from the Medical School of the University of Crete in 2013. He has also completed a PhD in the University of Crete on the role of CT and MR perfusion techniques in patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease. Moreover, he was a clinical fellow at the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology in San Paolo University Hospital of Milan.

His clinical practice includes the majority of interventional radiology procedures including peripheral endovascular procedures, venous interventions, endovascular aneurysm repair, transarterial embolization and chemoembolization, dialysis related interventions, radiofrequency and microwave ablation, biliary and genitourinary interventions.  He is also involved in cardiovascular imaging including computed tomography angiography and coronary computed tomography angiography.

Dr Nikolaos Galanakis has authored or co-authored more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers and 2 book chapters. In addition, he has presented numerous oral and poster scientific presentations and has been an invited lecturer in national and international conferences. He has also received 6 awards or distinctions for his research activities. His main research interest is focused on peripheral arterial disease, endovascular aneurysm repair and CT/MR perfusion imaging.

He is a board member of Medical Association of Heraklion and Radiological Society of Crete and member of European Society of Radiology (ESR), Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) and Hellenic Radiological Society.
