Milionis Charalambos
Dr. Charalambos Milionis was born in 1968 in Ioannina.
He is currently Professor of Internal Pathology at the School of Health Sciences, Department of Medicine, University of Ioannina. He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Ioannina in 1991 with "Excellent" and received his doctorate in 1999.
His research activity and training were enhanced during sabbaticals at the Department of Molecular Biology and Clinical Biochemistry at the Royal Free Hospital, UCL, London, United Kingdom in 1999 and at the Vascular Stroke Unit of the Center Hospitalier Universitaire (CHUV). Vaudois, Lausanne, Switzerland in 2011.
He currently serves as the Academic Head and Director of the 1st Pathology Clinic of the Regional University General Hospital of Ioannina as well as the Research Immunological Laboratory of the 1st Pathology Department of the Medical Department of the University of Ioannina and since 1-30-2020 as Coordinator of the Infectious Diseases Unit.
He works as a consultant at the Department of Lipid Metabolism Disorders of the PGNI and is in charge of the Cardiovascular Risk Modification Clinic for Children and Adolescents of the University Hospital of Ioannina.
He is a member of the Atherothrombosis Research Center of the University of Ioannina.
He is an active member of the Hellenic and European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) and a Fellow of the Hellenic (HSO) and the European Stroke Organization (ESO).
He is a member of the ESO Membership Committee and a member of the editorial team of the ESO guidelines for the secondary prevention of non-cardioembolic stroke.
His research interests focus on the pathophysiology of atherothrombosis, the clinical and epidemiological study of risk factors for cardiovascular disease, as well as the secondary prevention of stroke and the prognosis of stroke.
It is involved in a significant number of observational clinical studies and randomized clinical trials. He has authored and co-authored more than 320 publications in peer-reviewed international journals (h-index 45, citations >7000) and serves as a reviewer and member of the Editorial Board of Greek and international journals.
