Athanasios (Thanasis) Tziamourtas is a full Professor in the field of Exercise Biochemistry at the Department of Exercise Physiology of the University of Thessaly. He is a graduate of the Department of Exercise Physiology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, holds an M.Sc. from Syracuse University and a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (USA). He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of Thessaly, as well as in the graduate courses of the Departments of Biochemistry-Biotechnology and Medicine of the School of Health Sciences. His research interests focus on the effect of exercise on the redox state, the role of exercise and nutrition in inflammation and muscle damage, metabolism during exercise and alcohol consumption disorders. His scientific work includes over 250 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and more than 19,000 bibliographic references. For the last five years, he has been included in the Stanford “World's Top 2% Scientists” list, is the author of two books, and has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.
