It is a particular honor and joy to sign the Protocol of Cooperation between the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Studies Program (IDPS) of the Departments of Medicine and Nursing of the University of Thessaly, entitled "Ethics and Ethics in Biomedical Sciences", and the World Hippocratic Institute of Physicians, based in Athens.
The Protocol was signed by Messrs. George Patoulis and Antonios Polydorou, President and Secretary General respectively of the World Hippocratic Institute of Physicians, as well as by Mr. Athanasios Giannoukas, Professor of Vascular Surgery at the Department of Medicine of the University of Thessaly and Director of the IPHMS. This act seals in the most institutional and substantial way a long-standing, multi-level and fruitful cooperation, while at the same time laying the foundations for its future quantitative and qualitative expansion.
Within the framework of this collaboration and with the active participation of the IPA, Larissa emerges as a third academic pole, alongside Athens and Kos, for the annual organization of the "Hippocratic School".
The event will host outstanding medical students and academic lecturers from Medical Schools from all over the world, who will have the opportunity to visit Athens and Larissa in succession, before their educational and experiential journey culminates in Kos. There, in the sacred area of Asclepius – a place of worship for the god Asclepius but also a historical place of treatment and teaching of Medicine, where Hippocrates founded his school and taught – the ceremonial performance of the Hippocratic Oath will take place.
In this way, modern academic knowledge meets the timeless ethical legacy of Hippocratic Medicine, making Greece an international reference point in the dialogue on ethics, humanism and medical responsibility, in an era of rapid scientific and social transformations.
Special mention deserves our fellow countryman Mr. Rizos Chaliambalias, President of the Association "Hippocrates in Larissa", who over time has been a constant companion and valuable helper in the effort to preserve, promote and disseminate Hippocratic ideas.
