Konstantinos Gourgoulianis

Konstantinos Gourgoulianis is Professor of Pulmonology at the Department of Medicine of the University of Thessaly, Founder and Director of the Pulmonology Clinic of the University of Thessaly.

He was Vice Chancellor and Rector of the University of Thessaly, as well as President of the Hellenic Pulmonology Society.

He is a graduate of the Medical School of Athens in the year 1982. He prepared his doctoral thesis on the topic: "The distribution of circulating cancer cells in the organs of the immune mechanism (experimental study in rats)", which was finished in 1985 with a grade of excellence. He obtained the specialty of Pulmonology in 1989.

He participated as a researcher or as a scientific supervisor in 50 research projects while he has supervised more than 30 doctoral theses, 20 of which have already been completed.

He is a member of several scientific committees of National and International Conferences, a reviewer in international medical scientific journals and a member of national and international scientific associations.

Professor K. Gourgoulianis has published from 1990 until today about 370 publications in authoritative international medical journals, another 300 in Greek medical journals, 50 special articles with a total of about 8000 references to his work.

His books are taught in the Medical Schools of our country. His particular interest is the history of medicine, the social dimension of tuberculosis, the study of epidemics in our country, the pathophysiology of pleural diseases, asthma, sleep breathing disorders and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

At least five of his books have been published so far that are aimed at the general public.
